This flew under the radar for a lot of businesses. A bill signed on July 4, 2025 changed how R&D tax deductions work, and for many companies, it means real cash back. For years, R&D expenses had to be spread out over 5 to 15 years. That slowed tax relief and squeezed cash flow, especially for startups and growing companies. Now: • Domestic R&D can be fully deducted in the year it is spent • Some businesses can retroactively amend 2022–2024 returns • Startups may apply R&D credits against payroll taxes • Refunds and catch-up deductions are back on the table If you invest in software, engineering, product development, or process improvement, this applies to you more often than you think. Every year CMP, Utah CPA Firm looks for opportunities to give back to the community. This year we were so grateful to work with Stokes Nature Center https://logannature.org/ with a couple of their projects. Stokes Nature Center cares for the Jay's Well Park in Providence and are currently using it as a small learning center for elementary schools in the area. The plants grown in this park are indigenous to the area and create great learning opportunities for the local schools. This park is located at 370 South Main in Providence UT. The second location we were able to work on was the Nibley Outdoor Classroom located at 101 W 2600 S Nibley, UT. We were able to haul out trees and help with invasive plant removal. We are so thankful to this opportunity Stokes Nature Center!
